WHAT IS GOING IN THE DALLAS FORT WORTH AREA? HAVE AMERICAN INDIANS LEFT THE AREA? WHERE DID THEY GO?
WE GOT LEFT OFF THE BUS AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PBS station KERA is not airing the 13 part series on Indian Pride. Call or E-mail them to show support for getting them to air this show. YOU CAN REACH THEM AT www.kera.org         http://www.kera.org/ THERE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE MUCH CONCERN ABOUT WHAT THE INDIAN POPULATION WOULD LIKE TO SEE,,,,,, HOWEVER I BET THEY WOULD TAKE OUR MONEY FOR THEIR PROGRAMING (AND THIS IS DIFFERENT HOW?) MAYBE IF WE LET THEM KNOW THERE IS A LARGE COMMUNITY OF AMERICAN INDIANS AND THOSE CONCERNED ABOUT THEIR FAMILIES AND CULTURE THAT ARE NOT COUNTED AS AMERICAN INDIAN IN THE METROPLEX. LET'S LET THEM KNOW WE ARE STILL HERE AND WILL STAY AND BE HEARD.
Update
Leslie Lewis sent a letter she received from KERA reguarding the program scheduling of Indian Pride.
Here is the letter:
From: Patsy Brown <PBrown@KERA.org> Date: 2007/04/19 Thu AM 11:39:12 CDT To: llewis2222@verizon.net Subject: RE: TV Programming Thank you again for contacting KERA about Indian Pride. Our program director Bill Young has not scheduled this series to air at this time. Mr. Young says "part of the answer lies in the simple lack of airtime that is available. While programs of this nature are made available to PBS stations across the country through various organizations (NETA being the distributor of this series and not "officially" PBS), it becomes a matter of available airtime given our other network commitments, local acquisitions and programs that are produced by KERA. Unfortunately, in the case of Indian Pride, the fact that it is not a series that is part of the overall PBS national schedule, makes it difficult to schedule, especially due to the fact that it's a long running series of 13 parts. In addition, since it's from an independent producer, the need to screen all the episodes prior to broadcast is a necessity as it doesn't go through the vetting process that it would should it be part of the PBS schedule. I did do some checking with respect to other stations broadcasting across the country and found that currently only 20+ stations are running or have run the series out of a total of 341 stations making up a little over 10% of the country. I point this out only to hope that you understand that KERA is not the only station that has made the decision to not broadcast at this time. I certainly recognize the importance of the Native American community in the North Texas area having attended several events in the past that showcase Native American culture. I will certainly give the series serious consideration as I would any series and make a final decision based on quality of the series, the need for the series and the ability to schedule at a time that would make it available to the most number of viewers. Unfortunately, I can't commit at this time that the program will meet these requirements, but will keep you posted."
